Artwork > Pull Up A Chair 3.0: A Seated Perspective

The phrase "pull up a chair" has always been an open invitation—an opportunity to sit down, connect, and engage in meaningful conversation. The exhibition entitled, Pull Up a Chair 3.0: A Seated Perspective embraces this idea, using the chair as a catalyst for dialogue between the artist and the viewer.

Each chair becomes a visual entry point, expressing a theme or perspective from the artist’s lens, while inviting viewers to respond with their own interpretations and insights.

These chairs serve as more than just objects; they ignite conversations around issues that shape our communities—faith, social challenges, family, economics, health, and accessibility. Through this fusion of visual storytelling and dialogue, Pull Up a Chair encourages deeper understanding and an appreciation for various view points and perspectives.

Late last year, I was invited by artist, Sandra Davis, the curator of this exhibition series to create a chair that represented something I felt deeply about. My work entitled "The Ties That Bind", represented in this chair, intertwines threads of my African and Native American heritage, weaving together narratives of resilience, identity, and cultural reverence. Through the vibrant fabrics and mixed media adorning this piece, I pay homage to the rich traditions and stories passed down through generations.
